Farooq Akhtar’s disciplined bowling performance and a half century from Sandeep Singh ensured Al Massa Contracting secured a six-wicket victory over Sewa CC in the Sharjah Summer Cup 2017 organized by Sharjah Cricket Club.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sewa had a shaky start with three wickets falling for just 28 runs. Babar Ghazanfar held his wicket firm at one end as he hammered a 40-ball 58 including two boundaries and five sixes. He shared a 55-run stand with Waseem Tahir who scored a steady 26-ball 23 supported by just a boundary.

Abdul Rehman Baloch chipped in with a quick 16-ball 23 as Sewa CC posted 137 for nine in 20 overs.

Farooq Akhtar bowled a miserly spell conceding just 14 runs in his four overs and scalping three wickets while Shafiq Ashraf claimed two wickets.

Chasing a modest target, Al Massa Contracting made a decent start with openers Zahir Ahmed (30, 30b, 4×4) and Rizwan Ahmed (13, 8b, 3×4) putting on 24 runs for the first wicket. Sandeep Singh Sandy built on the good start as he powered to a superb 61 from only 34 balls peppered with four hits to the fence and five over it as Al Massa Contracting overhauled the target in 15.1 overs.
