Yassir Kaleem missed his century by three runs but that would not have hurt him much as his innings ensured Sharjah Cricket Club defeated GM Cricket Academy by six wickets in a high scoring match in the Sharjah Summer Cup 2017 organized by Sharjah Cricket Club.
At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, needing a huge 222 to victory, Sharjah Cricket Club got on to the job right from the first over as Asif Khan and Faizan Asif put on an impressive 74 runs for the first wicket.
Faizan Asif departed smashing a 21-ball 38 consisting of three boundaries and an identical sixes.
Yassir Kaleem arrived in the middle and he along with Asif Khan put on 50 runs for the second wicket before Asif Khan succumbed scoring a brilliant 58 from 37 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes.
With still a distance to go for Sharjah Cricket Club to achieve the target, Yassir Kaleem took the task on himself as he fired four boundaries and eight sixes during his 46-ball 97. Kashif Daud hit a 8-ball 15 as Sharjah Cricket Club achieved the target with three balls to spare.
Earlier batting first, GM Cricket Academy posted 221 for six in 20 overs. It was Zeeshan Ahmed’s innings that helped his team post a big total as he fired 78 from just 46 balls supported by two boundaries and seven sixes.
Asghar Khan laid the foundation with a nine-ball 24 consisting of a boundary and three sixes while Ansar Khan scored 45 from 25 balls.
Faisal Bilal (30, 15b, 2×4, 2×6) and Khurram Shehzad (33, 18b, 1×4, 4×6) were the other significant contributors.
