Half centuries from Chirag Suri and Adnan Mufti lightened up the Sharjah Cricket Stadium as Sharjah Cricket Club secured a comfortable 113-run victory over Defenders CC in the 9th Al Dhaid Gold Cup Tournament 2016/17. The tournament is organized by Sharjah Cricket Council.
Put in to bat first, Sharjah Cricket Club suffered an early loss but that hardly affected Chirag Suri as he powered to a fine 61 from 63 deliveries supported by eight balls.
Anfal PM who shared a vital 39-run stand for the second with Suri chipped in with 15.
But it was a century partnership between Adnan Mufti and Rohit Singh that provided Sharjah Cricket Club a stronghold in the game. Their 101-run stand for the fourth wicket meant Sharjah Cricket Club posted an impressive 263 for eight in 40 overs.
Mufti was the major contributor scoring a patient 89 from 95 deliveries with the help of nine boundaries while Rohit Singh faced 31 balls to score 35.
In reply, Defenders CC were optimistic as openers Saif Ullah and Waseem Rana provided a fiery start.
Rana was in particular brutal during his 10-ball stay smashing three sixes and two boundaries to hit 31 while Saif Ullah scored 50 from 36 balls peppered with one hit to the rope and six over it.
But after such a strong start, Imran Haider and Anfal PM bowled great spells as Defenders CC suddenly lost track to be shot out for a meager 150 in 26.3 overs.
Only Saud Afzal showed some resistance with 26.
For the winners, Imran Haider claimed four wickets and Anfal PM picked three.
