Bukhatir XI pulled off a sensational one-wicket victory over Multiplex CC in the 9th Al Dhaid Gold Cup Tournament 2016/17 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The tournament is organized by Sharjah Cricket Council.
Needing a challenging 194 to win after match was reduced to 30 overs due to fog, almost all batsmen made significant contributions to guide the team home with just two balls to spare.
Openers Khalid Shah and Rameez Abdul Kareem provided Bukhatir XI a relatively fine start adding 34 runs inside seven overs. While Shah chipped in with 23 from 31 balls supported by three boundaries, Abdul Kareem hit a 20-ball 22 including a boundary and a six.
Hafiz Kaleem made a patient 25 from 31 deliveries containing two fours before Zanal Nazar further boosted the chase with a useful 32 coming off 36 deliveries with the help of a boundary and a six.
But with wickets falling at regular intervals especially after the batsmen were slowly settling in, there was still a bit of concern for Bukhatir XI.
Vishnu Sukumaran (24, 15b, 1×4, 2×6) and Vinju Vijayan (22, 19b, 1×6) were quick in their approach to help Bukhatir XI inch closer to the target but succumbed at crucial stages.
It took a brief cameo of 22 not out from 19 deliveries from Waheed Ahmed to ensure Bukhatir XI crawled past the target in 19.4 overs.
Earlier, put in to bat first, Multiplex CC opener Ali Zeeshan was off to a brilliant start smashing a 32-ball 45 peppered with seven hits to the fence and two over it.
Muhammad Yasir further enhanced the total hitting a steady 56 from 60 deliveries containing three fours and a six.
Raees Haider and Razik Khan scored an identical 19 as Multiplex CC posted 193 before being all out in 30 overs.
